25th July 2006

Another day another party missed, this time Bodog which is taking place at the Tao nightclub at the Venetian. I missed Bodog last year as they would not let Richard Whitehouse (GGG editor) in. My excuse this year? I was suffering from double vision earlier. An hour away from the computer and my vision is more normal.

Lots of players in Ladbroke swag today. I believe they have over 80 players this year. That makes me feel good as I have a medium bet with Bodog on a player born outside the US winning the Main Event at 7/2.

I guesss it was worthwhile. Everyone else went to photograph Shannon Elizabeth (the lusty Czechoslovakian exchange student Nadia in the comedy film American Pie - 1999) and I stayed here to give you a winners shot. Nothing important, just Phil Hellmuth winning another bracelet. Strange thing but this WSOP crowd loved him. The locals who watch the WPT finals are lukewarm at best. In fact Phil once offered to buy anyone a drink if they cheered when he won a pot.

Tomorrow we have a final of the stud 8/better and lowball, should be fun reading how the interns report the hands.

At the end of play on Day 1 of the $1500 NLHE Paul Westley, from London but with many US cashes, was one of the chip leaders .A massive field of 2803 for this event..

Luke Smith (Lowestoft), Jon Reynolds (London), Paul Rayner (Barnsley) Mark Teltscher (London) and Iwan Jones (Wales) all survived Day 1 and are in the money.
