The company was founded in 2000 by leading Irish
businessman Dermot Desmond, whose many diverse business interests focus on key
sector areas of Technology, Leisure, Transport and include the world famous
luxury resort, Sandy Lane, in Barbados, and a major shareholding in Glasgow
Celtic Football Club. Global Betting Exchange commenced trading in September
2001 as a result of the growing trend in P2P (person to person) business models
such as ebay and market-led consumer demand for competitive prices (odds) on
sports betting.
There are no charges made for any deposits using Switch
or Visa Debit UK and Laser Irish Debit Cards. This is the easiest method of
depositing and withdrawing funds. Members using this method may deposit up to
£5,000 per day. Members who choose to deposit via Credit Card will have
to pay a small sum to cover the cost of the Credit Card transaction. The
standard maximum deposit by credit card is £2,000 per day, or
£6,000 over a six-week period.
New members will immediately join
on the 5% commission scale. You can still bring down your commission rate
significantly by earning commission points. You earn 1 point for every
£25/€40/USD$40 of losses or wins you have on the exchange.] At the
end of each week (0400 Hrs Monday) the points you have earned in the previous
seven days will be added to 85% of your total carried forward from previous use
to give a figure that determines your rate for the next seven days The minimum
you can get to is 2%.
The Upside . With less liquidity you
can get more prices out of line with the real
price.
Downside The site looks a little lacklustre. Only a few
markets like horse racing and football have serious or any
liquidity.
