The 2016
Main Event capped the largest-ever WSOP in terms of entrants in the 47-year
history of the event. A total of 107,833 players from 107 countries entered the
69 events on this summers WSOP schedule, generating a total prize pool of
$221,211,336. The 2016 Main Event was the fifth-largest in the
tournaments illustrious 47-year history, drawing 6,737 players from 78
nations. The average age of entrants in the event was 40.09 years old, with the
oldest entrant, William Wachter age 95, and the youngest, Evan House-Hall, 21
years old, 19 days. 268 women or 4% comprised this years field.
Gaelle Baumann from Paris, France was the last women standing, finishing in
102nd place good for $49,108, marking the second time in five years Baumann
received this distinction (She finished in 10th place in 2012).
Play
concluded in the main event at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas
on July 18, 2016 when there were nine players left, known as the November Nine.
Play restarted Oct. 30 - Nov. 1 in the The Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio
shown to a live TV audience. |
