Main Lotto Changes in 2018

Radical changes to the main draw with bigger cash prizes in the main game which have replaced the old raffle. New prizes came into effect for all Lotto draws from 21st November 2018.

Match New Prizes Old Prizes
Rollovers 5 rollovers max. Limited to £22m
6 numbers Jackpot Jackpot
5 numbers + bonus £1,000,000 ~£50,000
5 numbers £1,750 ~£1,000
4 numbers £140 ~£100
3 numbers £30 £25
2 numbers Lucky Dip Lucky Dip

The prizes for 3, 4, 5 and 5 plus the bonus ball are now fixed at new values. The fixed £1m prize for 5+bonus is great because it's the top prize in many draws since the lottery switched to 59 balls and yet it's often under 100 grand.

Lotto can now rollover 5 times. The 5th rollover becomes a Must Be Won draw. If no one matches all 6 numbers in a Must Be Won draw, the jackpot is shared by ALL cash winners, so they’ll win a bigger prize.(1) For example, that could mean winning £100 for matching 3 main numbers instead of £30!

Each winning cash prize tier is allocated a set percentage of the jackpot and example prizes in a Rolldown are as follows (these are all estimated and will be based on the number of winners in each tier):

  • Match 5+Bonus Ball – £1.2 million (compared with £1 million)
  • Match 5 – £10,500 (compared with £1,750)
  • Match 4 – £500 (compared with £140)
  • Match 3 – £100 (compared with £30)
The actual percentages for the Allocation of Jackpot by Prize category are; Match 5 + Bonus Ball (3%), Match 5 ( 6%), Match 4 (17%) and Match 3 (74%).

Camelot can, with the Commission's approval, designate any Lotto Draw a Must Be Won Draw. Camelot will advertise details of any such Must Be Won Draw in advance of it taking place.

(1) Prizes are subject to prize capping. If the jackpot is not won in a Must Be Won draw, each winning prize tier will be allocated a percentage of the jackpot. Prize capping takes place in very rare circumstances - for example, when popular number combinations are drawn resulting in there being more Winning Lotto Entries than Camelot is able to pay Prizes for. If Prize capping takes place, the actual Prizes won for matching 3, 4 and 5 Main Numbers, and 5 Main Numbers + the Bonus Ball may be less than stated. The Jackpot Prize per Winning Lotto Entry may also be capped.

Match 3 to Match 5 + Bonus Ball Prize Capping: Prizes in these Prize categories will be capped in very rare cases and only if the Capped Prize Fund (which is an amount equal to 35.82% of the sales for a Lotto Draw, plus an amount agreed by Camelot and the Commission (being £35million)) is not enough to award Winning Lotto Entries in the Match 2 to Match 5 + Bonus Ball Prize categories the Prizes stated in the table in Section (C)(1) above. In these circumstances, all Winning Lotto Entries in the Match 2 to Match 5 + Bonus Ball Prize categories will be awarded a Prize of £2 or its equivalent in the form of a Lotto Lucky Dip Entry for Match 2 Prize winners. This means that whilst the number of Match 2 Prizes in a Lotto Draw forms part of the capping calculation, Match 2 Prizes will never be capped and will always be awarded in full.

If there is any money left in the Capped Prize Fund after paying the £2 Prizes (or its equivalent) to all Winning Lotto Entries in the Match 2 to Match 5 + Bonus Ball Prize categories, the remaining money in the Capped Prize Fund will be used to pay up to a further £28 to all Winning Lotto Entries in the Match 3 to Match 5 + Bonus Ball Prize categories. If there is any money left in the Capped Prize Fund after paying the further £28, the remaining money will be used to pay up to a further £110 to all Winning Lotto Entries in the Match 4 to Match 5 + Bonus Ball Prize categories. If there is any money left in the Capped Prize Fund after paying the further £110, the remaining money will be used to pay up to a further £1610 to all Winning Lotto Entries in the Match 5 to Match 5 + Bonus Ball Prize categories. If there is any money remaining in the Capped Prize Fund following that payment, the remainder will be divided equally amongst the Winning Lotto Entries in the Match 5 + Bonus Ball Prize category.
