Tottenham A Good Bet To Win Europa League

Tottenham have a great opportunity to win their first European trophy since they prevailed in the 1984 UEFA Cup with the Europa League this season.

Jose Mourinho’s side are one of four Premier League clubs who are involved in the competition going into the last 32. Arsenal, Leicester and Manchester United all also reached the knockout stages of the tournament, but it is Spurs who should be backed to lift the trophy. Tottenham are the favourites in the UEFA Europa League odds with Manchester United not far behind, while AC Milan and Arsenal are a bit further back.

You only have to look at how seriously Mourinho took the qualification for this tournament at the start of the season to see why they are favourites. Even though the opposition was far inferior, he took no chances and played his star players. These games came around the Premier League and EFL Cup, however, this European competition is a high priority for the Portuguese boss this season.

Mourinho is a master in European competitions. He won the UEFA Cup and Champions League with Porto before his move to England. In 2010 he guided Inter Milan to Champions League success, while more recently, he lifted the Europa League with Manchester United in 2017.

Spurs are a dangerous team for any opposition in Europe. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have established one of the deadliest partnerships in football. Those two players are going to be hard to stop in the Europa League.

Jose Keen To Win Trophies

Wherever Mourinho has been throughout his career, he has won trophies. This is why the Europa League is so important to the Spurs boss, he knows it’s a great chance of getting some silverware on the board.

The Premier League is a much tougher competition to win and given the form Manchester City are in at the moment, it is going to be hard to stop Pep Guardiola’s side. If Spurs do become detached from the leaders, Mourinho could even rest players ahead of big games in the Europa League, something which will help their chances.

Tottenham have a last 32 tie with Wolfsberger next month. They are as short as 1/16 in the betting to qualify at the end of the two legs. The English club have the benefit of the second leg taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, something which is a big advantage to them.

Champions League Qualification

One of the big incentives for clubs in the Europa League is that winning the tournaments gives you automatic entry into next season’s Champions League. There is no guarantee Spurs will finish in the top four this season so this could be their best chance of securing football in Europe’s premier competition.

Not only is Champions League football very important to Tottenham financially, but Mourinho will also be desperate for it as it will help attract better players next summer when it comes to improving his squad.

The final of this year’s Europa League is set to take place on the 26th May at the Stadion Miejski in Gdansk, Poland. Whether Spurs will be there remains to be seen but they certainly stand a fighting chance.
