Also known as number 17, Alexis
Alejandro Sanchez is a forward winger for Arsenal. He began playing with the
team on July 10th, 2014 with a (supposed) £35 million contract. The only
other member the club has spent such a large amount of money on was Mesut Ozil.
The number 17 was assigned to Sanchez after he signed. Number 17 previous
wearer, Nacho Monreal, now has number 18. Sanchez is known as one of the
world’s most impressive football players. He played his first game for
Arsenal on August 2nd, 2014, in a game against Benfica in the Emirates Cup
tournament.
Born on December 19th, 1988, in Tocopilla, Chile, Sanchez
has played for teams like Cobreloa, Udinese Calcio, Colo-Colo, Serie A and
River Plate. When he was signed by Barcelona in 2011, he gained the title of
the most expensive transfer at a rate of £25 million. During his time
with Barcelona, he scored 39 goals and made 88 appearances. Over the course of
his career, he has played in two FIFA World Cups in 2010 and 2014 and the Copa
America in 2011.
He started out in Cobreloa, where he played with
Charles Aranguiz and Eduardo Vargas. He worked his way up to senior player in
2005. He also played in the Copa Libertadores and at 16 was one of the youngest
people to play in this competition. He moved to Udinese in 2006 and loaned him
to Colo-Colo. During his time playing for Udinese he made 95 appearances and
scored 20 goals.
In addition to playing for many prestigious teams,
since 2006, he has also been a member of the international team for
Chile.
When Sanchez signed on to Arsenal, he stated he was "so happy to

The arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger stated that Sanchez
"has consistently produced top-quality performances at the highest level for a
number of seasons now and we are all excited to see him integrate into the
Arsenal squad.”
Sanchez made 10 goals for Arsenal in only 17 games.
The only other player to beat his record was Ian Wright. In his game against
Stoke, critics claimed he played similarly to former Arsenal player, Thierry
Henry. He kept a close control of the game while scoring two points and acting
as an assist on one point. He also has complete control over his upper body and
has been known to block the ball with his chest—even from 60 yards away.

On February 15th, after winning a match
against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, Sanchez was mobbed by fans while trying to
drive home from the Emirates Stadium. The fans love him as much as his
